Wooden Board Day

Had a super trip to the Gold Coast.
The waves were small but the sun was out and the water was warm.

The wooden surfboard day was such a ripper I forgot to take any photo's.
Check out the massive variety of boards and people at the event on Grant Newby's Blog
www.woodensurfboards.blogspot.com.

Super stoked with my new paipo aka 'The Bomber'
It's an absolute speed machine, and I'm loving the concave deck.

We've got the biggest stick's available in NZ!
Drop us a line with what your needing...

Grown on a sustainable farm in Ecuador.

Sneak peek...

A behind the scenes look at the process of adding veneer artwork to the boards.

Laying out the design.
With thin veneer some pieces are incredibly fragile.

Making music...

Gloves, fiddly veneers and resin makes for a slightly messy glue up.

Larger full deck designs require careful planning and layout to ensure the design fits together an everything lines up before the resin kicks.

Add a brush coat of resin, the messy glue up disappears and the colours and grain stand out.

Next step is a sand to fair it out before glassing.

More photo's from the bench top...

Don't be...

green with envy.

BE... green and stoked. I am.

New Desktop Chris?

Rip it down, slap it up... it'll keep you fizzing at work.

Glassing the downside

Glass on the base, grain defined, colour intensified, and me stoked.

Simmons tail...

KooK FiSH nose...

Simmons tail!

Small room, tall stands...

means photo's get taken from the bench top.
Bring on the new workshop, 9 days till the move!

Foiled...

Simmons Keel...

x 2, Foiled.

And a logo in Madrone burl and Bamboo.

Logo'd on... finally

Been so busy building boards that I've hardly had time to upload photos.
So, here's a start...

Logo go' goes on the base...

Keels for the KooK FiSH
In black and white and looking just like a pedestrian crossing

The fin blank itself ends up really thin, so fins don't get the base cut down until they are foiled and glassed. This ensures there is plenty of strong base to hold in the vice while foiling them.

Cedar, white pine and rimu... kooky

this sucks...

the pump that is!
Vacuum bagging the deck ply to the board...

The boards are now hollow and weigh approx. 3lbs.

Veneering, glassing, fins and gloss to go.
